The way you catch a Sand Bug is you dig a hole, and then you look through the mud and it has to be quick, otherwise the Sand Bugs will dig back into the ground. And they look like little bugs.

Oh boy! Seeing your 'sand bugs' surely did bring back a lot of good memories of 'beach days' for me! When I was your age, I lived at the shore, a beach called Wrightsville Beach NC. I lived right across the street from the ocean and could run across the street any day and play at the water's edge. We had these 'sand bugs', too, only we called them 'sand fiddlers'. We'd wait until a wave went out and we could see all the little 'dents' in the sand where the sand fiddlers were 'digging down' and we'd quickly stick our hands down in the wet sand and bring up the sand fiddlers and OH, we loved how they 'tickled' in our palms before we put them in the bucket! Seems like I don't see so many of them now that I'm 'all grown up'. Maybe they all moved to New Jersey?
